New Instagram logo, What ya’ll think?
On May 11, 2016 Instagram launches a new logo
How exciting! For those who enjoy Instagram on a daily or even hourly basis, this is a big day! This Wednesday Instagram launched a new fresh logo design for our favorite app along with the other creative apps Layout, Boomerang and Hyperlapse.
I was on my computer (as usual) and noticed the logo change instantly on my own account page.
It’s bright cheery colors couldn’t be more fitting. I instantly felt like it was a happy, cheery logo. It’s simplicity and brightness are a perfect fit!
I find the overall icon itself is much simpler. Which at a small size, often this icon is quite small on websites and printed materials, it works much better. The old logo would lose detail and was difficult to make one color. This logo however works wonderfully!
I found the old logo colors to be retro, kind of like a 70’s basement. It’s several colors also made it too complex. Again it was difficult to work with design wise. I love the rainbow feel of the new logo. It’s beautiful.
It’s so beautiful that a fellow named Paulo del Valle (@paulodelvalle) started a project called #mysinstagramlogo project. This inspired thousands of instragramers to create the instagram logo in various crazy creative images.
After the release of the new logo this same fellow used more than 400 flowers to create his version of the new logo. See the top left image below. According to Instagram bemade the following statement “I went to the biggest flower shop in Rio de Janeiro and bought half of their stock for Mother’s Day. Then I got home and I had no idea how I was going to do it,” he explains. Eight hours later, he had something beautiful.
Below you will see a few other logo variations. They are all stunning!
Full Logo Series
Lastly I will touch on the full logo series. I think the 3 logos fit so well with the full app logo. I think it all works as one logo now and can easily be identified. Looking forward to seeing how else the app has changed. I love instagram, can you tell?
